Ubuntu is an African philosophy which when translated means,”I am what I am because of who we all are.” According to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based from a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.
Our Ubuntu bracelet captures this idea of togetherness with a design that highlights the beautiful and necessary linked relationship between ourselves and others. The inner gold bead is stamped with the word ‘Ubuntu’ and flanked by wood and lava beads. The gold bead represents ourselves, and the rest of the bead circle stands for the greater humanity. In this bracelet, as in life, one cannot exist without the other.
