About a year ago I met Jen Pleasants and her amazing work at a trunk show. We immediately connected when she looked at me and asked whether I was a “Cancer” sign. I remember looking back at her and saying, “Is it that obvious?” Next thing we knew we were deep in conversation about life, gratitude, art, travel, love, emotions…you name it…we Cancers have a way of getting “right to the heart of everything”. I was drawn to this ring in her collection as it looked like a piece that I could easily wear daily during my studio hours painting oceans and pastoral landscapes – and it would still be beautiful even if covered in many paint colours! I love its natural sculptural form (rather than a perfectly round band) because that is just what life is. There is nothing perfect in life and we are always molding ourselves with change and pursuit of our dreams. At the time, I was going through some positive changes in my life along with following my biggest dream of remodeling a little cottage on Cape Cod so that I could consider myself somewhat bicoastal. (Even though I currently live and have my studio in the Bay Area, I always dreamed of painting and living part time back on the East Coast where I grew up along the Atlantic coastline). Having this ring was a beautiful way to mark the new chapters and to remind myself daily to always be grateful, authentic, loving, and to continue to follow my dreams.
