As some of you might know, I grew up in the Florida Keys. Our closest neighbor was The Bahamas. I spent so many school breaks going across the gulf stream in our little boat and staying Bahamian harbors where I was welcomed by the warmest people. I feel such a connection to those islands and the people who call it home and I am crushed at the recent devastation. I can not imagine the resolve and strength it will take to rebuild, let alone the resources. But rebuilding will have to wait.
Right now the Bahamian people are in need of basic necessities: food, water, medical supplies and shelter. I love the organization World Central Kitchen and its founder, Chef Jose Andres, who is on the ground now providing fresh meals to Dorian’s victims.
