Priscilla Woolworth

microfibercloth.jpgRemember Woolworth's? Four generations away from one of the founders of the Woolworth chain, is Priscilla Woolworth, a cool, nature loving entrepreneur, who has reinvented her family's  business. I am loving her new Eco-Friendly General Store, PriscillaWoolworth.com!  Check it out!  I think I will have to get some of these cool Microfiber cloths by her.

Last year, I called my dear old friend in France, Anna Wildsmith, and asked her what was her favorite product she uses to clean her house, being the sensible and wonderful person that she is. She told me that without a doubt, "les microfibres" were the best at cleaning, and that she reduces so much waste and saves money by not having to use cleaning products with them.

Microfiber cloths are so soft, durable, have huge wicking abilities, are water repellent, great for cleaning sensitive surfaces, and they hold their shape well. Microfiber cloths are an overall extremely effective cleaning material, labor and cost saving, as well as being environmentally friendly. Because Microfiber cloths have the ability of attracting dust so well, cleaning products aren't necessary. DO NOT use Microfiber cloths (the ones you use for cleaning your house) to clean CRT, LCD and plasma screens, as the cloth may have accumulated dust, debris and grit in their tiny fibers, and could scratch the very sensitive screens surfaces.

DO wash Microfiber cloths ONLY in regular washing detergent, not oily, self softening soap based detergents, and fabric softener MUST NOT be used. The oils in the softener, as well as self softening detergents will clog up the fibers and make them less effective until the oils are removed by washing (or boiling in a hot pot of water). (ugh). Microfiber cloths are not made from a renewable resource, nor are they biodegradable (gasp). However, they are designed for repeated use. In many households, such as Anna's in France, house cleaning chores such as washing dishes, washing floors, cleaning furniture, are done using only Microfiber cloths and no cleaning products, bringing potentially significant environmental and economic benefits.

Did you know... in a study done, using Microfiber cloths to clean a surface leads to reducing the number of bacteria by 99%, whereas a conventional cleaning material reduces the number only by 33%.
