On the scale of conventional vs alternative medicine, I weigh in more on the alternative end. I have always felt that God forbid I ever get cancer, I would always start with alternative treatments first. But what would I do if it were my child with cancer? I have been following the story of Daniel Houser, 13, who the court has ordered, against his parent's wishes, to receive chemotherapy for his lymphoma cancer. In this particular case the Mayo clinic has concluded that his chances of survival are 90% chance with chemo vs. 50% or less without it. He underwent one session of the chemo then his parents decided to try to cure it using alternative ways. It made me wonder what I would do in a case like this. If it was a clear that it was 90% cure rate with chemo, I suspect if it were my child, I would use the conventional treatments. But, I am not sure I would, if the chances of recovery using chemo were any less. I might put my child on special diet, get acupuncture, see a healer (yes I have a healer, I am freaky like that), do reiki, and all the other hocus pocus that I believe in as chemo is full of nasty chemicals that kill good and bad cells. What would you do?If your child had cancer would you use conventional or alternative treatment options?
I haven't followed the details but I don't need to. This is a private family matter and the parents and especially a teenage child should have MORE say about the health treatment of their child and family than ANY ONE else...doctors or public or lawyers or media pundits. What the hell? Who cares if his chances of survival are 10% If they don't WANT chemical treatments, why the heck would anyone force them? They are not retarded. They have a different view of the issue. Call is a philosophical difference. Why do we have to sit around making decisions for others when we don't know what we'd do ourselves...it's only speculation until your there.
As far as all the people who would trust the chemical drugs first, you're brainwashed.
$50 Billion dollars have been gained by chemical drug companies developing innovative "treatments" for cancer and in 50 years, cancer rates in the US population are UNCHANGED. Why do we trust these people to heal us? Death rates are the SAME!!! My dad died from CHEMO so I am a little biased. I have also seen people using nutritional therapy to 100% cure their cancer...no drugs, no surgery...the tumors disappear once the immune system is on track. At one clinic in S. Cal they cannot officially claim to cure cancer or they will get SUED by the Cancer drug companies. Their natural, food based and totally safe treatments which WORK are ILLEGAL.
What's up with that? We all need to wake up and start asking questions. I am rooting for this mom and her son BIG TIME. I would do the same thing. No one is EVER going to tell me what to do with my or my children's health. EVER. That doesn't mean I won't ever consider chemical treatment, but I will sure as heck investigate and try safer, natural alternatives FIRST. And because I try to live clean, I am hoping my chances of having to deal with this at all are lower than most.
