I was recently at my kid's elementary school watching a band performance and the principal was speaking into the microphone all the accolades of the school, the teachers and the children's performances. Then the Vice Principal walked by carrying at least two dozen plastic water bottles for the kids to have water. I looked to see if any other parent was experiencing what I was - hello? have you heard? plastic water bottles are bad bad bad and so is the water they harbor. Manufacturing, distributing, "recycling" - it's all devastating the planet that these kids will inherit. Can we really feel good about ourselves? I will be sending a letter to the principal that I believe that schools should absolutely ban the water bottle and anything other non-necessity that wreaks havoc on our children's progress to lead a healthy, safe life. Otherwise, are we teaching them anything at all?
