ZippGo - Green Moving Boxes

As someone who has moved six times in the last ten years, I am sure the production my moving boxes alone has destroyed an entire forest.  And 43 million people move in the US alone every year!  That is a lot of trees being cut down and a lot more boxes ending up in landfill.  Well thank goodness for ZippGo, one of a number of green moving companies starting to answer the call to eliminate excess moving waste and help make our planet better for future generations.

Moving is complicated, wasteful and expensive, that is why ZippGo has made easy recycled plastic boxes that are cheaper than cardboard to make moving better for us and the environment.  Now that ZippGo has sorted it out for us, it is our turn to give them a call next time we move!

A Better Solution Than Cardboard Boxes

According to the Waste Management company, cardboard that is not recycled makes up more than 40% of the composition of landfills. We did some research and found some alarming statistics. Each ton of paper consumed (1 ton = 2,000 pounds) uses these resources:

  • 17 trees
  • 79 gallons of oil
  • 7000 gallons of water
  • 42,000 kilowatts of energy
  • 60 gallons of air pollution
  • 3 cubic yards of landfill space
  • Increased tax dollars

Using ZippGo Saves Trees

The average move requires about 60 cardboard boxes. With an average weight of 1.3lbs per box, the typical residential move would use approximately 80lbs of cardboard. We knew there was a better way to move that was not only more efficient but significantly reduced our carbon footprint. The ZippGo idea is simple. If just 100 people per month were to switch to using our delivered reusable plastic green boxes instead of cardboard boxes, then 4 tons less paper per month and a whopping 48 tons less paper per year would be consumed. Over the course of just one year, ZippGo customers would have a direct impact in saving:

  • 816 trees
  • 3792 gallons of oil
  • 336,000 gallons of water
  • 2 million kilowatts of energy
  • 2880 gallons of air pollution
  • 144 cubic yards of landfill space
